The Top Benefits of Mesa Acupuncture Treatments

By BodyWorkz Team
If you have been living with chronic lower back pain, a stiff neck, or headaches that show up day after day, you know how exhausting it can be. Maybe you have tried pain relievers, stretching, or a string of appointments that never quite solved the problem, and you are ready for something different. That is why so many people in Mesa and across the East Valley come to BodyWorkz to explore acupuncture.
Acupuncture uses very thin, sterile needles placed at specific points on the body to help calm pain and tension. It is gentle, drug-free, and works well alongside other care. Here are the benefits our Mesa patients ask about most, what the research says, and exactly what a visit to our office is like.
Potential Benefits at a Glance
- Relief from chronic back and neck pain. This is one of the best-studied uses of acupuncture, and one of the most common reasons people visit us.
- Easier movement with knee pain. Acupuncture may ease knee pain linked to osteoarthritis, making walking and stairs more comfortable.
- Fewer tension headaches and migraines. Research suggests acupuncture may help reduce how often these headaches strike.
- A drug-free option. Acupuncture gives you another way to manage pain without adding more medication.
- Relaxation and better rest. Many patients tell us they leave feeling calmer, and some notice they sleep better as their pain settles down.
- Works with your other care. At BodyWorkz, acupuncture can be combined with chiropractic care and massage in one personalized plan.
Results vary from person to person, and acupuncture is not a cure-all, but for many people it becomes a real turning point in how they feel day to day.

What Research Says Acupuncture Can Help With
You do not have to take our word for it. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (part of the National Institutes of Health) reports that acupuncture may help with back and neck pain, knee pain from osteoarthritis, and tension headaches and migraines. Studies have also looked at conditions such as fibromyalgia and sciatica pain.
Research also shows that every body responds a little differently. That is why we start with a real conversation about your pain, your history, and your goals, then build a plan that fits you instead of offering a one-size-fits-all treatment.
Meet Your Mesa Acupuncture Team
Acupuncture at BodyWorkz is provided by doctors who are state licensed in chiropractic and state certified in acupuncture in Arizona. Our founder, Dr. Janeen Wallace, graduated cum laude from New York Chiropractic College in 1997, taught and presented research across the U.S. and Canada, and practiced chiropractic in Mesa for eight years before adding acupuncture to her care. She opened BodyWorkz in Mesa in January 2014, and the practice has been named Mesa’s Best Business for chiropractic for multiple years.
That combined background matters. Because our team understands the spine, muscles, and joints as well as acupuncture, your plan can bring together acupuncture, chiropractic care, and massage therapy under one roof when that is what your body needs.
What to Expect at Your First Visit
Your first appointment starts with a conversation. We review your health history, the pain or symptoms you want to address, and what you hope to get back to doing, whether that is a round of golf, a full night’s sleep, or simply getting through the workday without hurting. You can ask as many questions as you like before anything begins.
Inside the Treatment Room
When you are ready, you will rest on a padded treatment table, lying face up or face down depending on the areas being treated. Your practitioner places a small number of very thin needles, much finer than the needles used for shots, and then gives you time to rest quietly while they work. Many patients describe the experience as deeply relaxing, and some even doze off. Our patients often mention the pleasant, welcoming atmosphere of our office in their reviews.
If needles make you nervous, let us know. We also offer teishein acupuncture, which uses a gentle tapping tool that does not puncture the skin.
Is Acupuncture Safe?
When it is performed by a trained practitioner using sterile, single-use needles, acupuncture has a low risk of side effects. The FDA regulates acupuncture needles as medical devices and requires that they be sterile and labeled for single use. Some people notice mild soreness or a small bruise where a needle was placed. Before your first session, tell us about any medications, bleeding concerns, pregnancy, or implanted devices so we can tailor your care safely.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people feel very little. You may notice a brief pinch as a needle is placed, followed by a dull ache, warmth, or tingling. Tell your practitioner if anything feels uncomfortable and they will adjust.
How many acupuncture visits will I need?
It depends on your condition, how long you have had it, and how your body responds. After your evaluation, we will recommend a plan and check your progress along the way.
Can acupuncture replace medical care?
No. Acupuncture works best as part of your overall care, not as a replacement for emergency care or treatment for a serious condition. For new, severe, or worsening symptoms, see a medical provider promptly.
