FAQ About Our Chiropractic Services

FAQ About Our Chiropractic Services

Acupuncture is an ancient form of pain relief used to target the nerve root causing the discomfort. It is used for conditions such as migraines, sciatic pain, headaches, labor pain, lower back and neck pain, osteoarthritis, dental pain, chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting, fibromyalgia, and so much more. Acupuncture works especially well when combined with other natural forms of relief such as massage and chiropractic.
Acupuncture works by using a micro needle to stimulate a specific nerve ending. There are specific points throughout the body relating to various symptoms. When a point is stimulated, it stimulates the rest of the nervous system to release chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. This gives the body a push to stimulate its natural healing abilities and promote overall physical and emotional wellbeing.
Acupuncture causes little to no discomfort. Because the needles are so thin and tiny, the insertion is barely felt by the patient, if at all. Some patients report feeling a slight aching sensation when the needle reaches the desired depth. A typical acupuncture treatment requires the use of 5-20 needles depending on the issue being treated. Acupuncture is often reported as being less painful than a blood draw.
Massage therapy is targeted at certain trigger points throughout the body that promote drainage of toxins, relaxation of muscles, and an overall feeling of calm. It has been proven to reduce heart rate, lower blood pressure, increase blood circulation, and encourage lymph flow throughout the body. Massage can also increase endorphins and improve range of motion, ultimately enhancing any additional medical treatment the patient may be receiving.
Absolutely! Massage therapy is effective whether the injury is old or new. Old injuries often form excessive scar tissue buildup, which can cause unnecessary pain and decreased range of motion. BodyWorkz often uses deep tissue massage to treat strains, sports injuries, and tight muscles resulting from hard work or injuries. The slow, deep strokes target the inner layers of muscle and connective tissue for increased blood flow.
The biggest difference between a regular massage and a deep tissue massage is the level of pressure used. A deep tissue massage, or a Swedish massage, is used to specifically target the inner layers of muscles and tendons to promote healing, relaxation, and increased blood flow to problem areas. If you are struggling with an old sports injury, deep tissue massage may be a beneficial part of your treatment.
A licensed chiropractor uses adjustments and manipulations to address alignment issues that are causing a multitude of effects throughout the body. When a spine is misaligned, it puts pressure on various nerves that can cause a variety of symptoms like nausea, dizziness, pain, tingling, and more. Chiropractors are incredibly beneficial if you suffer from neck, back, or other joint pain that seems to have no cause.
Absolutely! Because TMJ pain stems from poor jaw alignment, stress, grinding teeth, or an old jaw injury, a trained chiropractor can manipulate your spine through gentle adjustments to resolve it. Migraines often occur as a result of a pinched nerve or other misaligned area in the neck, back, or skull. Consistent chiropractic adjustments can have a positive effect on the chronic pain produced by migraines or TMJ.
Sciatica pain is often a result of a herniated disc or pinched nerve in the lower back area. A chiropractor is trained to apply careful spinal manipulations in a way that encourages a herniated disc back into place to take pressure off the sciatic nerve. Chiropractic care is most effective through regular visits over a period of time, as your body readjusts to its new normal.
Chiropractic care is a safe, effective method of pain relief during pregnancy. Most individuals experience lower back pain to some degree during pregnancy due to the massive changes happening in their body. Through chiropractic care, the pain in their back, hips, joints, and pelvis can be relieved through gentle, trained spinal manipulations. It is important to find a chiropractor who is licensed in prenatal adjustments to ensure a safe experience for you and your baby.
Because children’s bodies are still growing and developing, and much more sensitive to manipulation than adult bodies, it is important to find a licensed pediatric chiropractor if your child needs that type of care. Pediatric chiropractors have undergone special training to ensure their practice is safe and appropriate for the age and needs of your child.
